I spent an awesome Sunday with new friends at the country fair, well not really the country it was still in the city but away from the center and with a country feel. A lot of what we did was eat, and the food was great!
Appies, tamales, sweet and with meat, Locro and empanadas. Oh, and wine, the first of the season. It has just a touch of sweetness and went very well with lunch. Tamales; the sweet ones with corn and cheese and the others corn and meat. Locro, I’ve described before, a hearty soup/stew of corn, potatoes, beans and meat. Empanadas; ‘you eat with your legs open’.¡Por qué!
Because they are so juicy they will drip on your legs/pants/skirt etc. if you don’t, the best ones I’ve .eaten so far! Then the mains!
This grill was one of several, and going all day! The bun with chorizo and chimichurri, ‘choripan’, delicious! With more wine, of course! Then we needed to walk around a little!
So this is one of the things that goes on at this fair, we only saw one rider this particular Sunday, but the fair has just reopened for the season. The rider has a small ‘lápiz’ and rides at full gallop toward the ring which is hanging from the center of the bar, which might be 5cm across and attempts to put the lápiz through the ring. I don’t know if you can see in my photo but he is actually smoking Marlboro cigarettes, too funny! The little dog on horseback, so funny! He would bark like crazy any time the horse and rider came close. Alright time for dessert, all this activity has made us hungry!
Of course they are deep fried, that’s why they are so good! Phyllo pastry with a quince paste center, we also had a fried dough and donuts ….. Some fat with that fat, what? The artisans at this fair had very nice quality goods, the nicest I’ve seen. Things were unique and very well made.
It was a great day, and the company of new friends even better!
I see you’ve met Eduardo! Lucky you! Did you get swamped by the big rainstorm we’ve been hearing about, or did it miss most of B.A.?
Looks like you’re having fun!
Yes! kikki and Eduardo are wonderful, and I have been doing lessons with Eduardo. He is a great teacher! I didn’t even hear the storm but it has been very devastating in one area of the city, 48 people died and 2200 people have been evacuated from their homes. The rain came so quickly, it had no where to go and rose more than a meter into people’s homes. I think it will be some time before the mess is cleaned up and people can go home.
